How To Time Block Your Day - Maximizing Your Productivity

Making your day productive is one of the most important things as an entrepreneur. But how will you do it in the most efficient way? Time blocking is one of the powerful time management techniques that can help you focus and achieve your goals one by one. You'll need to plan out every activity of your day in advance, assigning specific time blocks for certain tasks and responsibilities.

I know what you're thinking. "It's too difficult to plan out every single day." That's what I said too! But after trying time blocking, I realized that I'm able to set myself limits. I'm able to block off time strictly for work, and I'm able to block off time strictly for myself and my family.

Here's a challenge for you - try it out for a week!

Here are 5 essential tips that can help you:

  1. Create your tasks list. List down all the things for work, home, social or friends that you need to do and need to be accomplished for the week. Include work hours, breaks, and any relevant days when you might not be able to get to work. The goal is to include everything from the very small detail of the task so that you won’t miss anything.

  2. Prioritize important tasks. Now that you have your list ready, identify the most important tasks that need to be done immediately. You can choose to take care of the quicker tasks firsts to get them out of the way, or get right down to the main tasks at hand. There's no foolproof way of deciding what task is more important - it's always up to you.

  3. Plot it on the calendar! It would go best on a weekly calendar, but you can also plot it down on a daily or monthly calendar. Put the most important tasks on the nearest available day or assign them to your preference.

  4. Review and adjust. Now that you have the most important tasks laid out, you can assign your remaining time blocks to other tasks throughout the week. It is absolutely important that you block out time for quick breaks, brunches/lunches, and even whole rest days! A great technique is to allot enough time for sudden emergencies or unexpected tasks that might come up along the way.

  5. Use the time blocking technique wisely. The hard part of planning is over! Now you just have to stick with your schedule. It might take a while to get the right formula, but when it's executed well, you'll be able to find a great work/life balance. Effective use of time blocking can help you focus on your tasks, control your day smoothly and avoid procrastination.

I want you to take note of Parkinson's Law - work expands to the time allowed for it. If it's weeks before a deadline, you are doing unnecessary work because you have the time. But if you give yourself ten minutes to do a task, you can still get the same quality of work when you give yourself one week to finish it!

So try planning your week out and set those deadlines. Time blocking is a powerful tool that will help you achieve your tasks and goals more efficiently! It will help you cut down on mental errors and stress from going into your next days unprepared.
